چکیده

Disorders caused by deliberate sabotage and terrorist attacks have always been considered as a major threat by the governments. Hence, identifying and planning for strengthening of critical facilities have become a priority for more security and safety. This paper presents a bi-level formulation of the rinterdiction median problemwith fortification for critical hierarchical facilities. In the developed bi-level formulation, the defender, as the leader, decides to protect a certain number of facilities in each level of the hierarchical system in order to minimize the impact of the most disruptive attacks to unprotected facilities. On the other hand the attacker, as the follower, with full information about protected facilities, makes his interdiction plan to maximize the total post-attack cost incurred to the defender. We develop three metaheuristic algorithms and an exhaustive enumeration method to solve the introduced problem. Extensive computational tests on a set of randomly generated instances demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed algorithms. & 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Bi-Level Meta-heuristic Approach for a Hazardous Waste Management Problem

This study concentrates on designing a medical waste management system with a hierarchical structure, including a local government and a waste management planner. The upper-level seeks to design and control the waste management facilities by minimizing the environmental risks related to the disposal of medical waste. While the lower-level model is to determine the waste collection plans by only...

Developing a New Bi-Objective Functions Model for a Hierarchical Location-Allocation Problem Using the Queuing Theory and Mathematical Programming

In this research, a hierarchical location-allocation problem is modeled in a queue framework. The queue model is considered as M/M/1/k, in which system capacity is finite, equals to k. This is the main contribution of the current research. Customer's enters to the system in order to find the service according to a Poisson. In this problem, the hierarchical location-allocation model is considere...

A bi-level programming approach to coordinating pricing and ordering decisions in a multi-channel supply chain

This paper investigates the Stackelberg equilibrium for pricing and ordering decisions in a multi-channel supply chain. We study a situation where a manufacturer is going to open a direct online channel in addition to n existing traditional retail channels. It is assumed that the manufacturer is the leader and the retailers are the followers. The situation has a hierarchical nature and...

A Three-Level Mathematical Model for an r-interdiction Hierarchical Facilities Location Problem

In general, any system may be at risk in a case of losing the critical facilities by natural disasters or terrorist attacks. This paper focuses on identifying the critical facilities and planning to reduce the effect of this event. A three-level model is suggested in the form of a defender-attacker-defender. It is assumed that the facilities are hierarchical and capable of nesting. Also, the at...

A novel bi-level stochastic programming model for supply chain network design with assembly line balancing under demand uncertainty

This paper investigates the integration of strategic and tactical decisions in the supply chain network design (SCND) considering assembly line balancing (ALB) under demand uncertainty. Due to the decentralized decisions, a novel bi-level stochastic programming (BLSP) model has been developed in which SCND problem has been considered in the upper-level model, while the lower-level model contain...
